Real Progress!!!

Just a quick post – here’s some background: our pilot project is based loosely on another study, which compared different fertiliser regimens on growth rates in vanilla. One of the things they measured was when the vines started sprouting their own roots (since old roots are removed as part of the cutting and transplanting process) in their study it took 21 days. Well, we appear to have beaten that! After 17-18 days (depending on which vine you ask) we have got new growth!

Obviously, this is huge – albeit only using one metric over the many that were used in the original paper – vanilla can be grown aquaponically in Madagascar, and it seems (based on this one-of many-possible-metrics) it would be more productive to so! Needless to say, a long-awaited victory cigar has been gloriously enjoyed on the front porch!
